Located on a 2,000 m² plot in rural Nicosia, at the edge of a residential area bordering forested land, the house was conceived as a calm, low-profile retreat for a client with a deep love of reading, dogs and nature.

 

The architectural response is intentionally restrained. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the house sits quietly within its setting, forming a secluded domestic environment shaped by simplicity, material honesty, and a close relationship with the outdoors.

 

The plan is organised around a central living space and fireplace, which operates as the emotional core of the house.

Positioned between interior and terrace, the fireplace reinforces the idea of the house as a shelter. A place for reading, gathering, and retreat, but also a threshold between domestic life and the surrounding landscape.

 

The material palette draws from the textures and tones of the Mediterranean countryside. Wood, terracotta, plaster, stone, glass, and metal are used in a direct and understated way, creating a contemporary rural house with subtle references to the self-built houses and agricultural structures of the region.

 

The result is a quiet dwelling, modern but rooted, minimal but warm, secluded but open to nature.
